Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea and Governor of al-Qalyubia Abdel Hameed al-Haggan have taken part in a symposium entitled “The Textile Industry: Promising Opportunities for Production and Export,” held in Shubra al-Kheima, al-Qalyubia governorate.

Attendees included: Muhammad Al-Murshidi, head of the Chamber of Textile Industries, Mohamed Al-Zallat; head of the Industrial Development Authority, Abdel Raouf al-Ahmadi; head of the Industrial Control Authority; Mohamed Abdel Karim, CEO of the Industrial Modernization Center; and a host of Qalyubia deputies and representatives of investor associations in the textile business from all over the country.

In her keynote speech, Gamea announced that the Supreme Council for Textile Industries is currently being restructured to comprise all the state bodies concerned with the textiles, to outline a comprehensive vision to promote this vital sector.

“The government pays great attention to upgrading the spinning and weaving industry, especially that Egypt possesses great competitive advantages that qualify it to double its exports and access more markets,” she noted.

The minister also expressed the government’s keenness to legalize unlicensed factories and integrate the informal sector into the national economy.
