Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine
Gamea has held an expanded meeting with members of the Egyptian Handicrafts
Export Council (EHEC), headed by al-Walid al-Shami.
The meeting
explored means of developing the sector, by increasing
the competitiveness of Egyptian handicraft products both on the domestic and
foreign markets and boosting its exports.
“The political leadership is keen to promote the handicrafts and heritage industry
and respond to all the challenges facing it, being one of the labor-intensive
sectors that generate jobs, especially in Upper Egypt, border and tourist governorates,”
Gamea affirmed.
She stressed the importance of creating an integrated database of all the projects
operating in this field for easier access to financing, training and capacity
building programs, as well as participation in internal and external
exhibitions.
