Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has met with Hisham Safa, managing director of Attijariwafa Bank in Egypt, where they discussed ways of benefiting from the bank's financing programs to enhance the Egyptian presence in African markets.

“The government is keen to increase Egyptian exports to Africa and open new markets on the continent,” Gamea said, noting that the bank’s presence in 15 African countries especially in West Africa is a great opportunity to attain this end.

She pointed to possible cooperation between the bank, the Egyptian Commercial Service and the export councils in financing Egyptian exports’ access to African markets,  as well as financing the establishment of joint industrial projects in Africa, which would help enhance the country’s integration with the continent.

The minister further noted that the bank can also support the industrial sector in the Egyptian market, through financing small and medium size enterprises.

Safa, for his part, affirmed the bank’s keenness on enhancing cooperation with Egypt, being one of the most important investment destinations in the Middle East and Africa. He added that it is currently working on developing its loan portfolio and expanding its financing programs for all commercial and industrial sectors, as well as the business community in the Egyptian market.
