In
her first statements after being sworn-in, Minister of Trade and Industry
Nevine Gamea said that developing the manufacturing sector tops the ministry’s
priorities during the current period, especially with President al-Sisi’s
initiative to encourage local industry.
“The
MTI’s work plan will be focusing on major areas, namely: localizing national
industry through the National Industrial Localization Program (NILP), as well
as reoperating closed factories and supporting ailing ones,” she noted.
Gamea
added that the ministry envisages establishing 13 industrial parks with a total
of 4,500 factories, which she said would “boost the manufacturing sector’s
productivity and create more direct jobs”.
