1- The
Official Gazette
It is a weekly gazette issued every
Thursday, and in urgent cases, special
editions may be issued. The first edition
was published on 13th March 1958. It is
considered the Official Gazette of the
State.
- It was re-organized on the 1st of March
1967 and a decision was made to issue an
extra sheet by the name of the Egyptian
Official Gazette "El Wakaea El Massreya
Newspaper".
It publishes the following material:-
- Laws & Legislations.
- Constitutional Supreme Court legal
judgments.
- President's decrees & decisions.
- Prime Minister's decisions according to
the president's authorization.
- Declarations and information about the
awarded medals & decorations as well as
protocols of ceremonies & reception
parties.
The Egyptian Official Gazette " El-Wakaea
El Massreya Newspaper"
- The Egyptian Official Gazette is the
oldest newspaper in Egypt. More than 172
years had passed since its first edition.
Leaders of the intellectual movement in
Egypt had participated in its issues. The
first issue was published on the 3rd of
December 1828 A.D. The first Editor in
chief was: El-Sheikh Mohamed Abdo 1880
A.D. and was assisted by the leader of the
national movement in Egypt Saad Zaghloul
Pasha.
- The organization keeps all issues of the
Egyptian Gazette since 1890 A.D. and up to
its latest issue at the Information and
Documentation Center.
- It is considered as an extra sheet of
the Official Newspaper. It is the first
Arabic newspaper issued in Egypt & the
Arab world. Initially it published
articles, news, and translated Acts.
Later, its content was limited to official
information, laws and decrees.
- It is issued daily except for Fridays &
official holidays.
It publishes the following material :-
- Prime Minister's decisions.
- Ministerial decisions.
- Governors' decisions.
- Clubs' Declarations decisions.
- Summaries of the various societies,
organizations, and groups formation.
- Administrative curbing declarations,
government tenders & auctions, and
governmental departments' advertisements.
- Lost checks advertisements.
- Other issues that should be published
according to laws & decisions such as
establishing new banks or amendment of
their principal systems. The weekly
situation of the Central Bank of Egypt and
the decisions of its board of directors
regarding the registration of some banks
as commercial banks and the status of
companies & resolutions of their
amendment.
2-The General
Organization for Government Printing
Offices Library
The Organization's library was established
in 1942. Its tasks can be summarized in
the following:
1- Acquisition of books and publications
by all possible means of purchasing,
subscription, trading, or donations.
2- Preparation of publications and
materials that possesses insuring
proprietorship and arranging them into
groups according to their use.
3- Providing the reader with an
identification of its resources and
whatever is new through the Organization's
advertisement board as well as through the
memorandums that are sent to departments.
4- Collecting books, references,
documents, data and information related
the unit's important issues and problems
from the different sources should they be
internal or external, and classifying &
recording them.
5- Defining documents physically and
objectively in a manner that illustrates
their elements and contents and indexing
them.
6- Scientific analysis of documents'
contents of all sorts and summarizing
them.
7- Collecting, arranging and indexing
laws, legislations, and rules governing
the unit.
8- Performing all necessary documentation
processes using all the modern
technological means such as microfilm.
9- Classifying, categorizing, indexing,
retrieving, and printing microfilm
documents, and working on availing them to
specialists.
10- Selective scientific broadcasting of
subjects that are of interest to
decision-makers in a manner that insures
they are constantly updated with the
library's contents.
11- Collecting scientific references,
books, magazines, scientific bulletins
related to Statistics, Information
Systems, and Computers.
12- Providing researchers and library
frequenters with the required materials
and guiding them according to the set
rules of internal and external book
lending.

Historical Development of the Library

By the
end of 1953, the library's contents
amounted to 6061 Arabic
publications, a group of which
included the following: |

The
Egyptian Official Gazette dating
from 1890 A.D., numbering 409
volumes. |
|
|
- |
A
collection of laws, legislations,
and royal decrees starting from 1884
A.D. and is available in 66 volumes |
|
|
- |
A
collection of ministerial documents
and decisions starting from 1880
A.D. and comes in 72 volumes, all in
Arabic, and are considered an
abundant record of Egypt's events
from then and till now. |

The
library has a collection of foreign
language publications, among which
are: |

The
Egyptian Official Gazette's
collection in French starting from
1885 A.D. and is available in 180
volumes |

The
collection of laws in French
starting from 1880 A.D. and is
available in 69 volumes |

The collection of
ministerial documents and decisions
from 1880 A.D. and is available in
71 volumes

In
1956, the library's contents
amounted to 6528 Arabic books and
publications, 4085 in foreign
languages categorized into sciences
and arts and were all considered
references for departments for
revision and correction of books and
publications produced by the
Organization. The total amount of
books lent in 1956 A.D. was 3373
books.

In
1962/1963 A.D. the library's stock
of Arabic and other publications
amounted to 13137 publications, 8753
Arabic publications, 4384 foreign
languages publications. All were
classified in their different
languages into 20 categories
according to the library's technical
distribution, (laws, religions,
linguistics, literature, eastern
languages, social sciences,
philosophy, mathematics, astronomy,
engineering, military sciences,
physics, chemistry, geography,
geographical economics, economics,
history, natural history, biology,
fine arts, and miscellaneous).
In
addition to collections of the
Egyptian Official Gazette in French
dating to 1880 A.D., and the Arabic
version of it dating to 1890, as
well as a collection of ministerial
documents and decisions from 1880
A.D. and a collection of laws from
1884 A.D.
In the
same year 277 Arabic publications
were added to the library's stock,
196 of those were books from the
Thousand Book Project that were
given to the library as a present
from the Ministry of Education.
27 German books were added to the
library's stock that year as well.

A.D., the library's stock amounted
to 14413 Arabic publication and 3484
foreign publication. |

3-Printing Training Center
|
|
The
General Organization for Government
Printing Offices took an interest in
erecting a training center whose
mission is to produce experienced
technical staff capable of exploiting
production means efficiently and
maintain such means. The Organization
utilizes such expertise and the
surplus goes to the printing market in
Egypt.
A
Printing Training Center was erected
at the Organization's headquarters
under the supervision of the Minister
of Industry and Technological
Development and financed by the
Ministry of Industry with a capacity
of 300 trainees, the course duration
is 12 months, 9 of which are for
ordinary training, and 3 months are
for enhanced training. It includes the
